IAPS 2018 Conference Main Topics

In line with the institutional and scientific aims of IAPS, the conference themes will cover a wide range of topics, where any topic related to people-environment studies can fit in, independently of the specific disciplinary background. The Conference will thus be an open arena for debate for urban planners, architects, psychologists, geographers, urban and housing sociologists, economists, engineers, and environmental researchers. The contribution will follow the principles of scientific rigour, innovation, and inclusiveness. Although the following list is not exhaustive, the conference will discuss topics and issues such as:

  • Ecological behaviour and climate change
  • Environmental education and sustainable lifestyles
  • Environmental risks and hazards
  • Human health, wellbeing, public health and the environment
  • Human relations to nature and resource conservation
  • Neighbourhoods, housing, and socio-spatial differentiation
  • Perception and cognition of space
  • Place attachment and place identity
  • Positive environments and human development
  • Social and cultural meanings and use of space
  • Sustainable mobility and transportation
  • Sustainable tourism, leisure, work-life balance
  • Theories and methods for people-environment studies
  • Urban design, sustainability and management of everyday life settings
